Warrior Expeditions is honored to be the recipient of Stephanie Price’s fundraiser hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2021!
Stephanie Price served in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer onboard USS IWO JIMA before transferring to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command where she worked to build the new MKVI Patrol Boat Program from the ground up in Coastal Riverine Squadron 3.
After resigning her commission, Stephanie found a meaningful job at a great company but still found herself in the depths of depression and anxiety as she missed the camaraderie and deep sense of purpose the Navy provided. Stephanie was ready to get out when her time came but saw first hand how difficult transitioning was. She desperately needed to do something to get out of the funk she was in. She needed to get back her sense of self worth and independence in the absence of being part of something as big and important as the Navy. It needed to be active, to help her from within, as exercise is an invaluable treatment for depression and anxiety. And it needed to give her a new mission.
When Stephanie came across the idea of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, she knew immediately this is what she needed to do. She started planning and put in her notice to quit work. While researching the trail, she learned more about the trail community and how similar the mindset is between thru hikers and military members. Both are bonded in camaraderie due to sharing intense experiences that only few in society endure and they share the sense of purpose to complete something difficult that takes dedication, grit, and many months to achieve.
Stephanie realized that she’s fortunate to be able to support herself on this healing trip that other veterans, who are also struggling with transitioning into the civilian world, might not be able to bring to fruition. That’s when she found Warrior Expeditions. They provide an invaluable service to the veteran community. She hopes to raise awareness and funds for this important organization as she connects with outdoor enthusiasts on the trail and shares her experiences throughout the trek on social media with her family, friends, and brothers and sisters in arms.
